Meeting between PM Modi and President Putin: Russia consents to release all Indians hired by their army
As per reports, PM Narendra Modi brought up the matter on Monday night at a private dinner given by Vladimir Putin. Russia has agreed to discharge all Indian nationals working in its army following discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin during Modi’s visit to Moscow, news agency ANI reported citing unnamed sources. In the confrontation between Russia and Ukraine, at least two Indian citizens have died in battle, and many more who are still trapped there claim they were tricked into joining the fight. According to the sources, PM Narendra Modi brought up the matter on Monday night during a private dinner hosted by Vladimir Putin. Russia agreed to help with the return of all Indians who were serving in the military in retaliation.
According to Reuters, one of Modi’s key concerns in Moscow would be resolving India’s trade imbalance with Russia and obtaining the release of Indian people who were “misled” into fighting in the conflict in Ukraine.
According to sources, India would bring up the issue of Indians recruited for the Russia-Ukraine conflict to the highest level, as previously reported by news agency PTI.
According to PTI, an unidentified source stated, “We want the expeditious discharge of Indians fighting in the Ukrainian conflict from the Russian military.”
The individuals mentioned above claimed that the number may be roughly 100, despite reports indicating that the Russian military had hired up to 200 Indian nationals to work as support personnel like cooks and attendants. However, due to military units’ frequent movements and inadequate communications, it has been challenging for Indian officials to get in touch with Indian citizens who are thought to be serving on the front lines, the persons added.
Indian nationals were previously advised to “exercise caution while seeking employment opportunities in Russia” by the external affairs ministry.
Recruiting agents in Indian cities and Dubai tricked a large number of Indian nationals into joining the Russian military. In addition to the four deaths, other Indians also suffered injuries. Indians have also shared videos on social media pleading for assistance in leaving these types of professions.
A human trafficking network that was operating throughout multiple states and luring credulous young men with the promise of well-paying jobs in Russia through social media platforms was recently brought to an end by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
In an earlier video that went viral, a group of guys from Punjab and Haryana, dressed in army uniforms, said they were duped into fighting in the conflict in Ukraine and reiterated their need for assistance.

Tuesday marks PM Narendra Modi’s meeting with President Vladimir Putin; the day before, the Indian leader had arrived in Moscow amidst international condemnation of Russian airstrikes in Ukraine.
During his first visit to Moscow since Russia began its campaign in Ukraine in February 2022, Modi will try to strengthen New Delhi’s long-standing ties with Moscow.
In addition, since regaining power last month, Putin is pursuing stronger security relations with the West.
“The planning includes no surprises. When questioned about the discussions, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told state TV, “The most important thing is to create an atmosphere for meaningful interaction.”
