Godavari level reaches 44 ft in Telangana’s Bhadrachalam, Government has issued first warning.
As per sources, local streams and tanks have flooded, leading to road closures in the Allapalli and Gundala mandals of the Manuguru division.
KHAMMAM: The rising water level is causing concern among the people who live on either side of the Godavari River. Sunday saw the first warning sent due to the Godavari River’s rising water levels, which reached 44 feet near Bhadrachalam.
The rising level of Godavari is attributed, according to irrigation officials, to inflows from the Pranahitha River in Telangana, the Indravathi River in Maharashtra, some regions of Chhattisgarh, and outflows from the Taliperu.
Irrigation officials have cautioned fishermen and people not to fish or take selfies close to the river in order to protect their safety. The police have also increased their patrol along the riverbanks to deter people from going near the water.
There are cautionary signs and warnings posted about accessing the water. It further said that offenders would be held accountable. Residents in low-lying areas were being warned by the police, according to Bhadrachalam ASP Ankith Kumar Sankhwar. He said that there is now more watchfulness at bathing ghats and flood banks.
Reports state that local tanks and streams have overflowing, forcing the Manuguru division’s Allapalli and Gundala mandals to close their roads.
The first warning is expected to be issued late on Sunday, according to officials, and additional floods may occur based on rainfall in the upper catchment area. While the required precautions are being taken, the district administration asked the populace to maintain their composure. Three months’ worth of necessities have been stored in all mandals as a precaution. Competent swimmers are preparing to help with rescue efforts should the need arise.
